🌍 About NDEO & NHSDA
The National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA), created by the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO), is the only national honor society for dance students in the U.S.
NHSDA recognizes dancers who demonstrate:
Artistic Excellence – dedication to training, performance, and creativity.
Leadership & Character – teamwork, service, and inspiring others.
Academic Achievement – success in school while pursuing dance.
✨ Why it matters: NHSDA gives students national recognition and places dance on the same level as other honor societies. By establishing an NHSDA chapter at FDS, we are celebrating the artistic and academic achievements of our exceptional dance students while advancing the field of dance education.
🌟 Why Join NHSDA?
🎓 Recognition & Prestige – Official certificate, gold honor pin (available for purchase), and blue/white honor cords (available for purchase for graduating students, when permitted by school).
🤝 Leadership & Mentorship – Opportunities to serve as student officers, help run activities, mentor peers, and support events. The NHSDA FDS Chapter is set up as a student organization with elected student officers, with FDS acting as the faculty advisor.
📚 College & Scholarship Boost – NHSDA is a respected national distinction that shines on applications and resumes.
🏆 Awards & Opportunities – Juniors and seniors may apply for the Artistic Merit, Leadership & Academic Achievement Award, a top-level state/national honor with scholarship opportunities.
🎓 Graduation with Honors (for seniors who go beyond)
After induction, seniors may pursue Graduation with Honors, a higher recognition that requires: additional points beyond induction requirements, a short reflective essay on the impact of dance, a $22.50 fee, which includes a certificate and medallion. This honor is awarded at the discretion of the Chapter Sponsor and is celebrated at induction or graduation ceremonies.
✨ Lifetime Recognition – Once inducted, students remain members of NHSDA for life. Active status is approved by FDS and required for privileges such as wearing honor cords at graduation.
