FDS Special Needs Program (SNP)

Fantasy Dance School is excited to announce our programs designed for students of all abilities! Here at Fantasy Dance School, we believe that all students should have the opportunity to be able to grow, perform, and navigate their passion and love for the performing, visual, and physical arts. Fantasy Dance School's Special Needs Program is an inclusive program designed to share a love for DANCE, ART, and GYMNASTICS with all students with a range of intellectual, emotional, and physical abilities. By communicating and working with each families' goals, we aim to accommodate and provide the best to meet each individual family's needs.

Enrichment

Our staff and teachers will lead and work with students of all abilities with a focus on growing love and passion for the performing, visual, and physical arts, group instructions, following directions, social-emotional learning activities, and working together with peers and teachers.

1-on-1 Individual Meeting

Before enrolling or trying a class, each family may have a 1-on-1 individual meeting with one of our staff to discuss goals and priorities, student's needs, how to best collaborate and work with your family, and how to make our classroom the best learning environment for your student. Our classrooms also welcome any aides students may be more comfortable with transitioning to our classrooms if preferred by the families.

Classroom environment

Classroom environments will be tailored to be sensory-friendly, so classrooms may include but are not limited to: dimmed and lower lights, volume-friendly music, and other accommodations we may be able to make to ensure each student feels comfortable stepping into and learning in our class environments.

Class length

At this time, our class times range from 30 - 45 minutes dependent on class size and comfort for students. If classes fill up, there is potential to open more to fit the needs and interests of students and families.

Benefits of DANCE, GYMNASTICS, and ART

DANCE ...

Dance and movement have both been found to be beneficial for all children, including children with autism. Because children with autism often have language deficits that limit their self-expression, dance and movement can be a great way for them to find alternative means of expression.

In addition to being an excellent form of exercise, dance is a powerful form of therapy for children with disabilities because of its sensorimotor integration. Dance helps to improve balance, strength, muscle coordination, where the body is in space, sense of touch, and more.

ART ...

Art promotes freedom of creative expression, which helps students to relax and think differently. Anyone can make art, and there are so many different art forms, which help students with special needs gain independence, confidence, and self-esteem.

In addition to providing a self-esteem boost, art helps children with learning differences, such as dyslexia, ADHD, and sensory disorders, communicate more effectively and express thoughts and feelings in a way that makes sense to them, according to PBS.org.

GYMNASTICS ...

Gymnastics is a sport that provides an enriching environment filled with opportunities for sharpening the mind by stimulating the brain, fostering social skills, and strengthening gross and fine motor skills while providing children with special needs an alternative method for learning and developing new skills.
