FDS Special Needs Program (SNP)

Inclusive Dance, Movement & Creative Classes for Children of All Abilities

At Fantasy Dance School (FDS), we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience joy, creativity, confidence, and connection through movement. Our Special Needs Program provides a supportive, inclusive, and adaptive environment for children of all abilities to participate in dance, movement, gymnastics, and creative activities.

We welcome students with a wide range of developmental, physical, sensory, and learning differences and work closely with families to ensure a positive and meaningful experience.

Our Philosophy

The Fantasy Dance School Special Needs Program is an enrichment-based program, not a therapeutic service.

Our focus is on:

  • Confidence and self-expression

  • Positive movement experiences

  • Social interaction and engagement

  • Emotional well-being in a supportive environment

Every child is unique. Our instruction is flexible, patient, and individualized to meet each student where they are, while maintaining a joyful, structured class experience.

Individualized Approach & Accommodations

Before enrollment, Fantasy Dance School requires a one-on-one meeting with the parent or guardian to better understand the student’s needs.

This process allows us to:

  • Learn about the child’s strengths, challenges, and goals

  • Discuss sensory sensitivities, communication preferences, and behavioral supports

  • Determine appropriate placement and class structure

  • Identify reasonable accommodations to support participation

Our goal is to create a personalized and respectful experience for every student

Qualified & Trained Instructors

All instructors working in the FDS Special Needs Program have education, training, or professional experience supporting children with special needs.

Instructor qualifications may include:

  • Training in adaptive and inclusive instruction

  • Experience working with children with developmental, physical, sensory, or learning differences

  • Backgrounds in education, child development, or special education

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification

  • Ongoing professional development related to child safety and inclusive teaching

FDS instructors are movement educators and specialists. We do not provide medical, therapeutic, or clinical services.

Safety, Supervision & Class Environment

Student safety and well-being are our top priorities.

Our program includes:

  • Appropriate adult-to-student supervision

  • Structured routines and clear expectations

  • Sensory-aware environments, when possible

  • Emergency procedures and safety protocols

  • Staff trained in CPR and First Aid

Depending on a child’s individual needs, parents or guardians may be asked to remain on site or provide additional support during sessions.

Benefits of DANCE, GYMNASTICS, and ART

DANCE ...

Dance and movement have both been found to be beneficial for all children, including children with autism. Because children with autism often have language deficits that limit their self-expression, dance and movement can be a great way for them to find alternative means of expression.

In addition to being an excellent form of exercise, dance is a powerful form of therapy for children with disabilities because of its sensorimotor integration. Dance helps to improve balance, strength, muscle coordination, where the body is in space, sense of touch, and more.

GYMNASTICS ...

Gymnastics is a sport that provides an enriching environment filled with opportunities for sharpening the mind by stimulating the brain, fostering social skills, and strengthening gross and fine motor skills, while providing children with special needs an alternative method for learning and developing new skills.

How to Enroll in the Fantasy Dance School Special Needs Program

Enrollment follows a structured process to ensure appropriate placement, safety, and program compatibility.

Step 1: Complete the FDS Special Needs Program Interest Form

Families begin by completing the FDS Special Needs Program Interest Form.

This form helps us understand:

  • The student’s needs and goals

  • Prior experience with structured activities

  • Accommodation and support considerations

  • Scheduling preferences

Step 2: In-Person Meeting

After reviewing the Interest Form, our team will contact the family to schedule an in-person meeting with the parent/guardian and student.

This meeting allows us to:

  • Meet the student and family

  • Discuss expectations and accommodations

  • Review class structure and placement options

  • Answer program-related questions
